more . . .

* At Metro Blvd we pride ourselves on differentiated instruction. What is differentiated instruction? We find out everything we can about the student: strengths, weaknesses, learning style (visual, audio, hands on) then tailor our courses to fit that students needs.

*Every student is assigned to an Advocacy teacher and meets with that teacher every Wednesday for 45 minutes. That teacher helps with tracking credits for the student, goal setting, and post-secondary planning.

* Many of our classes are "project-based" and teachers work together to create projects that are cross-curricular.

* Currently, we are piloting a 9th/10th grade Academy (school within our school) this year. These students will have combined courses of English with Social Studies. This enables the classes to do alot more problem based projects and assignments. So far they have also been able to incorporate a trip to the Kansas State Fair and the Museum of Natural History.

* Metro Blvd incorporates a wide variety of current technology: internet, computers, Smart Boards, clickers, Video cameras, Digital cameras, to name a few.

mural in social studies This mural was painted by a US History 2 student in the Social Studies and Government room. He was tackling the question "if Buddha, Mohammad, Jesus, Aristotle, Socrates, and/or Confucius came back today would they come back as a capitalist, socialist, or communist?".
Here is an example of one of our cross curricular projects. These books were created by Metro Blvd students to donate to children in Liberia. This contribution was part of a national community service project organized by ABC Literacy Organization to improve world literacy. We're sure proud of what our kids contributed!
Here is an example of a photostory created in the 9th/10th grade academy. Each student took a period in history, wrote a storyline, found pictures and created the photostory. This particular student took an interest in this time period because her dad was a musician during this time.
